Pearl City woman killed in H-3 wreck

Advertiser Staff

A 33-year-old Pearl City woman was killed at around 3:45 a.m. today in a head-on collision on the H-3 Freeway westbound, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

The accident occurred when a 46-year-old Montana woman driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound in the westbound lanes slammed into a 1997 green Honda Accord driven by the 33-year-old woman, police said.

The accident took place three miles west of Harano Tunnels.

The Honolulu Fire Department was called in to remove both women from the wreckage, according to HFD spokesman Capt. Kenui Spencer.

"It was an extensive extrication," said Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokesman Bryan Cheplic. "It took almost 45 minutes to removed the older woman, according to my understanding."

The younger woman was dead at the scene. The older woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition. Police have opened a negligent homicide investigation.
