1942: Gregg M. Sinclair, for 16 years a member of the University of Hawai'i faculty, is named UH president.

1986: To the dismay of many, the city Board of Water Supply ends a tradition and removes the poinsettias at the Nu'uanu Pumping Station on Pali Highway. The agency said the poinsettias were the victim of a fungus and new streetlights that affected blooming.

2002: Former Bishop Estate trustee Lokelani Lindsey pleads guilty to money laundering in a case that involved her sister's bankruptcy.
