POLICE BEAT
Man in 40s robs Kane'ohe bank

Advertiser Staff

A man believed to be in his 40s robbed the Windward City Shopping Center branch of American Savings Bank at about 4:20 p.m. yesterday, police said.

The man passed the teller a demand note and made off with an unknown amount of money. No weapon was seen, police said. The robber was last seen running through the shopping center's parking lot.

Police described him as 5 feet 8 and about 180 pounds. He wore sunglasses, a gray long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans.

MINOR ACCIDENTS WON'T GET REPORTS

Big Island police will no longer make a police report for minor traffic accidents, beginning July 1. Police define a minor accident as one that involves no injuries and less than $3,000 in damage.

The policy will include "non-traffic accidents," which are incidents that occur in parking lots and other private property.

Last year, 65 percent of Big Island traffic accidents were minor ones.
