Apparent drowning on Big Island

A diver on the shoreline along Kalaniana'ole Avenue on the Big Island apparently drowned after his snorkel filled with water this afternoon, the Hawai'i County Fire Department said.The diver had no pulse and was not breathing when a bystander administered CPR. Fire personnel began CPR, as well as oxygen therapy, after they arrived just before 1:30 p.m. The diver was taken to Hilo Hospital unconscious, the fire department said.
