The Contemporary Museum highlights the work of Filipino-American emerging artists from across the country in its current show, "Alimuantan." But in this centennial year of Filipino immigration to Hawai'i, the museum isn't forgetting the homegrown talent — just opened at its downtown satellite is "Contemporary Filipino-American Artists in Hawai'i."

In works such as Alicia Ajolo's "Apo Lady's Tienda," themes of identity, family history and gender are explored. Ajolo includes her grandmother's recipe for chicken marungay in her installation, a re-created grocery store shelf.

Photographer Sean Rivera layers images past and present, of family and lover to create multidimensional self-portraits.

The eight other artists included in the show are Christopher Aradanas, Michael Yap Cueva, Terry Acebo Davis, Trisha Lagaso Goldberg, Aaron Padilla, Rebecca Ramos, Romolo Valencia and Charles Valoroso.
