Deadlines approach for seeking storm aid

Time is running out for people who sustained damage during the storms and floods of Feb. 20 to April 2 to register for government assistance through FEMA and the Small Business Administration.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency will stop registering people on July 1, the agency said yesterday.
People affected may be eligible for grants to repair damaged homes, but all those who have received insurance settlements need to provide settlement information to FEMA.
Those who have registered may continue to update applications after the July 1 deadline.
Homeowners who have not yet applied for assistance may call FEMA at (800) 621-3362. People with hearing and speech impairments may call the TTY number at (800) 462-7585. The phone lines are open Monday through Saturday, 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time. Those affected can also register at www .fema.gov.
Additionally, the Small Business Administration is offering low-interest loans for individuals, or businesses of any size, to repair or replace damaged property.
The SBA deadline is July 3. Applicants may contact the SBA at (800) 659-2955 and find information at www.sba.gov/dis aster or by e-mailing disaster customerservice@sba.gov.
