DEAN WAKUZAWA has been named controller for Atlantis Adventures' submarine tour operations on O'ahu, Maui and the Big Island, and its Navatek Cruises. The certified public accountant has almost 20 years' experience in Hawai'i in broad-based accounting and taxes.
THOMAS WELLMAN has joined The Gas Co. as vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer. His duties at the statewide gas energy provider will include overseeing overall finances, business planning, financial reporting, information technology, inventory purchasing and supplies, and cash management. Wellman's career has included five years with the Honolulu office of Deloitte & Touche, handling clients in the oil and gas, healthcare, banking and nonprofit industries; and 17 years with Alexander & Baldwin, including posts as vice president, treasurer and controller of A&B and its real-estate business, A&B Properties Inc. The Gas Co. provides gas energy and related services to 67,000 commercial and residential customers on O'ahu, the Big Island, Maui, Kaua'i, Moloka'i and Lana'i.
DARLENE N. BLAKENEY has been named director of finance and operations for Hanahau'oli School, replacing Jane Carney, who is moving to the Mainland. Blakeney is an 18-year veteran of Bank of Hawaii, most recently as senior vice president and deputy manager in the commercial real estate loan division. Blakeney also is a trustee on the boards of Goodwill Industries of Hawaii and the Hawaii International Child Adoption Agency.
Twenty-seven-year Hawai'i hotel management veteran TERENCE FOWLER has been hired as assistant executive director of Kahala Nui. He will oversee plant operations, housekeeping and resident services of the senior-living community and its affiliated Hi'olani Care Center, with a focus on the independent living residents and staff training. He is a former general manager of the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel and has served in various positions with Hilton Hawaiian Village and the former Hawaiian Regent Hotel.
Orm Limpisvasti has joined investment advisory firm C.M. Bidwell & Associates as vice president in charge of marketing and client relations. Limpisvasti previously served as a consultant for various life-science companies in the San Francisco Bay area.
As part of a national expansion, which has seen the Sperry Van Ness presence grow from nine to more than 100 markets in four years, the commercial real-estate investment brokerage firm has partnered locally with a Kailua firm. MOLLY MOSHER-CATES, owner and principal broker of Realty Advisors, announced the affiliation. The new firm will be called Sperry Van Ness/MC Realty Advisors. Mosher-Cates is a 27-year veteran of commercial real estate in Hawai'i, specializing in the sale of vacant land, and retail and industrial properties. She is a former Kaneohe Ranch Co. executive and was responsible for leasing, sales and development of the Castle Trust lands in Hawai'i. She founded MC Realty in 2004.
Local small businesswoman and military supporter P. PASHA BAKER, has been reappointed to the U.S. Army Reserve Ambassador Executive Committee. The four members are appointed by Lt. Gen. Jack C. Stultz, chief of the Army Reserve, to serve as his personal representatives on the local level. The group promotes awareness of the Reserve in local government, business and community circles; supports Reserve soldiers and their families; and provides feedback. Baker was the first ambassador appointed when the program began in 2002.
JAMES M. "JIM" MERRELL has been named president of the residential condominium property management firm Touchstone Properties Ltd. He remains the firm's principal broker. Keven, son of Charles "Chuck" Whalen, who founded the firm in 1990, was named vice president and secretary. Brigitta Roberts remains treasurer.
