1905: The first-ever O'ahu county election is held. A sheriff, county clerk, county auditor, county attorney and county treasurer, as well as deputy sheriffs and supervisors, are all chosen by the electorate.
1960: Nearly 200,000 people turn out to greet President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who arrives in Hawai'i for a six-day visit after a Far East tour.
1961: Supermarkets in Hawai'i report shortages of some food items because of a maritime strike that started five days earlier on the U.S. Mainland and spread to the Islands. Stores begin rationing milk and rice.
