Honolulu's Stephanie Kono shot a 4-under-par 68 yesterday and was tied for fifth after two rounds of qualifying at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship in Pueblo, Colo.

Following two delays for thunderstorms, play was suspended at 8:24 p.m. with 14 players still on the Walking Stick Golf Course. Among those who will finish their second rounds today is Hilo's Amanda Wilson, who is 8-over for the tournament with two holes to play. The projected cut for match play, which will involve the top 64 players in the 144-player field, is 10-over 154.

Hannah Jun, of San Diego, and Mina Harigae, of Monterey, Calif., shared medallist honors at 7-under 137.

Kono shot one of only nine sub-par rounds on the day to finish at 3-under 141.

"Yesterday I drove the ball really well and it didn't seem like I missed any fairways, but I didn't shoot that well (73)," Kono told usga.com. "It was kind of disappointing because where I was in the fairway I should have had a better score."

Kono will be joined by two others from Hawai'i in match play, with Wilson also in good position.

Kimberly Kim, a former Big Island resident now living in Mesa, Ariz., is tied for 26th at 76—149. Pearl City's Mari Chun is tied for 31st at 75—150.

Hawai'i golfers who missed the cut were: Christine Kim (84—157), Lori Planos (77—159), Cyd Okino (81—159), Jaclyn Hilea (82—159) and Kelly Nakashima, who was 12-over for the tournament when she withdrew with two holes to play.
