The Hawai'i State Junior Golf Association was awarded a $10,000 grant by First Hawaiian Bank Foundation, the charitable arm of First Hawaiian Bank, the association announced.

"First Hawaiian Bank's generous donation will allow the HSJGA to continue to educate the next generation of junior golfers and future citizens of Hawai'i," said Mary Bea Porter-King, HSJGA president. "Our educational program and the game of golf teach our children the core values of golf and life: respect, good sportsmanship, integrity, honesty and personal responsibility."

JULY JUNIOR GOLF MONTH

July is Junior Golf Month in Hawai'i, as proclaimed by the governor. The Hawai'i State Junior Golf Association is having a Ball Mark Promotion to celebrate the month and raise funds for its programs.

Ball markers sell for $5, with $2 going to the HSJGA and $1 to local junior programs. Markers will be available at:

Turtle Bay, Kiahuna, Waikoloa, Kaua'i Lagoons, Ko Olina, Ka'anapali, Hualalai, King Auto Group, Princeville, Makaha, Hawai'i Prince, Kona Country Club, Wailea, Wailua, King Kamehameha and Kahili.

KAPALUA

CLAMBAKE TEES OFF

The 20th annual Kapalua Clambake Pro-Am tees off tomorrow at the resort's Plantation, Bay and Village courses. A field of 53 professional and amateur teams will play in a 54-hole tournament that ends Sunday. There is also a 36-hole individual competition.

Maui Special Olympics and Lahainaluna's golf team are tournament beneficiaries. Saturday's silent auction at the Clambake Feast will benefit Special Olympics.

For more information, call Marty Keiter at 669-8802 on Maui.

KA'ANAPALI

JUNIOR SPECIAL OFFERED

Ka'anapali Golf Course is bringing back its summer promotion that lets juniors play free from now through August.

The offer is for the newly renovated par 70, 6,400-yard Resort South Course.

One junior golfer, age 7 to 17, can play for free after 10 a.m. daily during the months of June, July and August when accompanied by a paying adult.

TURTLE BAY

NIKE JUNIOR CAMP SET

Turtle Bay Resort will be the site of a Nike Junior Golf Camp from June 28 to July 2. The camp is open to golfers between the ages of 8 and 18. It will be directed by Turtle Bay head pros Larry Keil (Palmer Course) and Kevin Carll (Fazio).

The school is offered to overnight or day campers. Instruction focuses on all aspects of golf, including full swing, pitching, putting and bunker play. There is small-group instruction in the mornings on the practice facility. Campers practice what they have learned in the afternoon on one of the resort courses.

For more information, call Turtle Bay Golf at 293-8574.

MAUNA LANI

ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL

Mauna Lani Resort will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Francis H. I'i Brown courses with a $25 credit for future rounds for each round played through July 28.

Mauna Lani was ranked eighth among the Top 100 Golf Resorts in North America in the 2005 Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Poll. For more information or to schedule a tee time, call 885-6655 on the Big Island or visit maunalani.com.

PRINCEVILLE

CARTS FOR DISABLED

Princeville Golf's 45-hole complex on Kaua'i now has carts specially designed for players with disabilities. The SoloRider cart makes it easier for players with limited mobility to maneuver around the course.

There is no additional fee for use of the cart, but advance reservations are recommended.

The weight of the golf cart is precisely balanced so it can go onto tees and greens without damaging the turf. The single-rider cart also features hand controls and a seat that lifts and pivots electronically to allow golfers to play their shots without leaving the cart.

NOTES

The annual Vulcan Scholarship Golf Classic has been postponed from its June date to an undetermined date in the fall. Held annually on the last Wednesday of June, the new date will allow the presence of scholarship athletes during the event. Through its 25-year history, the event has raised more than $250,000 in scholarship funds for the University of Hawai'i-Hilo athletic department.
