Police Beat: Three teens arrested for stealing purse

Advertiser Staff

Two boys and a girl, all teens, were arrested yesterday after undercover officers allegedly watched them steal a purse from a 50-year-old woman at the Waikele discount stores area.

Police said the boys, ages 18 and 15, were being watched covertly as they waited for visitors to rob.

About 2:40 p.m., one of the boys ran up from behind, grabbed the woman's purse and ran back to a car driven by the girl, 16. Police said the other boy, who was seated in the car appeared to be a lookout.

A patrol officer who was in the area was told about what was happening and managed to pull the car over close to where the purse was stolen, police said. The woman whose purse was taken and a witness identified the two boys who were arrested along with the girl on suspicion of second-degree robbery.

Fake $50 bill leads to drug paraphernalia arrest

A 33-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were arrested early yesterday morning after the man allegedly tried to use a counterfeit bill to buy gas at a Honolulu service station.

Police said the man handed over a $50 bill to buy $10 worth of gas about 3:40 a.m.

The station attendant suspected the bill was counterfeit and called police.

They arrived and arrested the man on suspicion of first-degree forgery. He then granted permission to the officers to search his car, police said.

The officers found what appeared to be three pipes that are used to smoke crystal methamphetamine.

The man and woman were both arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia.
