Business briefs: Bank's magnetic tapes stolen

Bank of the Orient, which has two branches on O'ahu, is contacting customers about potential identity theft after magnetic tapes containing the personal information of 28,000 customers was stolen last month from one of the company's California locations.

Bank spokesman Scott Bender said there haven't been any reports of customers having problems and that the tapes were encrypted, requiring special equipment, passwords and software to open. In notifying customers, the bank is offering customers a one-year subscription to a credit monitoring service for free is being offered to them for free, Bender said.

University of Phoenix sets July 10 job fair

The University of Phoenix Hawaii Campus will hold its fourth annual job fair July 10 at the Topa Financial Center.

Participating companies include ABC Stores, American Savings Bank, Best Buy, Central Pacific Wireless, Cingular Wireless, the Hawaii Department of Education, the FBI, Hawaii Pacific Health, Hawaiian Telcom, Hilo Hattie, the Honolulu Police Department, Island Air, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Norwegian Cruise Line and Wackenhut Corp.

The fair will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in rooms 101 and 102 of the Topa Financial Center, 745 Fort Street Mall. For more information, call 536-2682.
