The military governor of Hawai'i urges nonresidents not engaged in essential war work to leave for the Mainland, The Advertiser reported on June 22, 1942.

1905: The new Pauahi wing of Queen's Hospital is dedicated.

1968: Fire rages out of control on the freighter SS North America 630 miles east-southeast of Honolulu. Two crewmen were missing and 22 others were rescued.

1972: The News Building has a new look with the installation of the stained-glass window entitled "This Earth Is Ours" by Erica Karawina. Karawina said the message of the work was "simply that we can pre-serve our ecology or destroy it."
