Register by July 1 for disaster aid

Saturday, July 1, is the deadline to apply for state and federal disaster assistance. Homeowners, renters and business owners in the City and County of Honolulu and Kaua'i County with damage from the severe storms and flooding from Feb. 20 to April 2 should register as soon as possible.

People can register by calling FEMA's toll-free number, 1-800-621-FEMA, or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing- or speech-impaired. Telephone lines are open Monday through Saturday, 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time. Registration can also be done online at www.fema.gov.

Monday, July 3, is the last day to apply for loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, which operates Outreach Centers at the following locations:

  • Kahala Mall, 4211 Wai'alae Ave., suite B-7, Monday to Friday 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • Kualoa Ranch, 49-560 Kamehameha Hwy., Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m.

  • Transportation Security Administration, Lihu'e Airport, 4280 Rice St. (former Hale Kaua'i Building), Monday to Friday 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

    Customer representatives will be available. Those unable to visit a center can call customer service at 1-800-659-2955, e-mail disastercustomerservice@sba.gov or visit the SBA Web site at www.sba.gov/disaster for more information.
