1905: The Sugar Factors Co. purchases a refinery in Crockett, Calif., to begin refining sugar in competition with the Spreckels refineries in San Francisco.
1907: Walter Frear accepts the post of governor of Hawai'i.
1911: The new Kaumakapili Church is dedicated.
1942: Military and civil authorities announce that effective July 1, all U.S. currency will be withdrawn in the Territory of Hawai'i and will be replaced by U.S. currency overprinted with the word "Hawaii."
1950: The Korean War begins.
