The June 26, 1935, Pacific Commercial Advertiser reported on plans for four new buildings for the University of Hawai'i.

1919: The Honolulu Chamber of Commerce sanctions reorganizing the old Hawaii Promotion Committee into the Hawaii Tourist Bureau.

1954: Historic Bishop Memorial Chapel on the Farrington High School grounds is demolished. The church on the former grounds of Kamehameha school was a monument to Bernice Pauahi Bishop. Every piece of the blue lava rock in the church was hand-cut.

1994: The Rt. Rev. Donald Hart, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i, announces his resignation, saying he is profoundly sorry for the financial crisis stemming from the church's involvement in the troubled Hale O Malia retirement home project.

1997: Israel Kamakawiwo'ole dies of complications from morbid obesity. He was only 38 and had enthralled audiences with his musical laments for an older, gentler Hawai'i.

2002: Former City Councilwoman Rene Mansho is sentenced to a year in prison after she pleads guilty to two felony theft charges for misusing money from taxpayers and campaign contributions.
