Three Big Island men have been charged in connection with what police said was an elaborate operation that produced marijuana with a street value of more than $1 million.

The three North Kohala men, including a father and son, were arrested June 14 and charged two days later. They were arrested after police raided a Hawi home and seized 1,635 marijuana plants, 14 pounds of processed marijuana, an ounce of hashish, 18 ounces of crystal methamphetamine and a stolen handgun.

Police also said they found sophisticated equipment used to grow the marijuana at the home.

Arrested were:

  • Douglas Farrar Sr., 42, who was charged with commercial promotion of marijuana, methamphetamine trafficking, promotion of dangerous drugs, promotion of harmful and detrimental drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and a firearms count. He was released after posting $500,000 bail, police said.

  • Douglas Farrar Jr., 22, who was charged with the same counts as his father. He also was released on $500,000 bail, police said.

  • Darryl Daniels, 45, who was charged with commercial promotion of marijuana, promoting dangerous drugs and possessing drug paraphernalia. He was released on $8,000 bail.

In addition to the narcotics and equipment, police seized $98,000 in cash, three vehicles, two motorcycles, two all-terrain vehicles, farm equipment and other property. Police said the handgun was reported stolen in Honolulu.

The marijuana was valued at more than $1 million, while police said the crystal methamphetamine had a value of more than $78,000.
