A memorial service for John W.A. "Doc" Buyers, former chief executive officer of C. Brewer & Co., will be held on July 7 at the First Presbyterian Church in Makiki.

Buyers was head of C. Brewer from 1975 to 2001. During his tenure, he helped steer the company's operations from sugar to diversified agriculture, including macadamia nuts, Kona coffee and tropical juices.

He died May 20 in Pennsylvania at the age of 77.

The service will start at 4 p.m. A reception will follow on the church's lanai. Extra parking and a shuttle will be available at Roosevelt High School beginning at 3:15 p.m.

A Big Island memorial will be held on July 8 at the Hilo Coast United Church of Christ in Honomu at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked donations in Buyers' memory be made to the Hawaii Island Food Bank or to the Keystone Hospice in Wyndmoor, Pa.

Buyers was buried in Pennsylvania.
