TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Kyle XY," 8 p.m., ABC. In a refreshing change, networks have given boosts to some of the cable shows on cable/satellite channels owned by their corporations. Fox recently aired "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"; NBC has boosted "Battlestar Galactica" and "The 4400." Now ABC airs episodes of "Kyle XY," four days after they screen on ABC Family. That's a good choice. This first hour is amiable and interesting. Marguerite MacIntyre plays a psychologist with a bizarre case: A teenager (Matt Dallas) was found naked in the woods. He has a sharp mind but no idea who he is — and no belly button. She names him Kyle and takes him home to her family, which doesn't like having a semi-scary guy around. These people soon warm up to him, as do we, however. Kyle comes across as a sort of gentle, family version of the terrific "John Doe."

OF NOTE

"On the Waterfront" (1954), 2 p.m., Turner Classic Movies. This black-and-white film about union corruption may be the best-acted movie of all time. It won Oscars for best picture and for director Elia Kazan, star Marlon Brando and supporting actress Eva Marie Saint.

"24," 7 and 8 p.m., Fox. The discovery that there's a mole in the Counter Terrorism Unit breeds suspicion and fear.

"Ghost Whisperer," 7 p.m., CBS. Ever notice that TV weddings rarely go as smoothly as real ones? Melinda's friend (Susan May Pratt) is marrying. The problem is that Melinda keeps seeing a scary dead lady in a wedding dress. It turns out to be the groom's previous bride, who died on their wedding day.

"Las Vegas," 8 p.m., NBC. Ed (James Caan) is supposed to loosen up and shed stress. That won't be easy: He's a victim of identity theft.

"Close to Home," 8 p.m., CBS. When a truck crashes through the window of a real-estate appraiser, it leads to an investigation of a crooked developer.

"Numb3rs," 9 p.m., CBS. This case is close to Charlie because it happened on his college campus. Someone has stolen a device that could create customized illnesses. It was meant for research but could be used by terrorists.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. As a re-trial nears, witnesses are killed. The prosecutor on the case, Jack McCoy, may also be a target.
