Walk, run to benefit homeless veterans

 •  Going outside the box for driving experience

The Patriot Fun Walk/Run, a benefit for homeless veterans in Hawai'i, will be tomorrow at Iroquois Point Island Club in 'Ewa Beach.

The 5-kilometer event starts at 8 a.m., and its theme is "No Veteran Left Behind."

All proceeds will benefit U.S. Vets-Hawai'i, a home for former homeless veterans, and the only facility in the state focused on housing homeless veterans.

The event will be officially timed with awards given for all age groups.

IVAN MIYASATO MAKES U.S. BOWLING TEAM

Bowler Ivan Miyasato will participate in the World Youth Championships in Berlin, July 22 to 29.

The 23-year-old was a first-team All-American at Fresno State in 2004-05, and helped the Bulldogs to a national runner-up finish in 2005.

The World Youth Championships features nearly 400 bowlers from 48 countries.

PARADISE BIKEFEST SET FOR SUNDAY AT KCC

The Paradise Bikefest, called by organizers as Hawai'i's largest motorcycle rally, will be Sunday at Kapi'olani Community College.

The event starts at noon, and will feature a biker build-off between Hawai'i's best custom motorcycle builders. Spectators will be given the opportunity to cast their ballot for Hawai'i's next "Chopper King."

In addition to the bike build-off, the public can enter the ride-in bike show/contest where builders, owners and businesses will compete for specially built trophies. There will also be a tattoo contest. Registration for the ride-in bike show/contest and tattoo contest is $25.

Several guest celebrities are scheduled to attend including, Brett Wagner known as The Big Schwag, Harold Pontarelli, Big Mike, Jose De Miguel, Sugar Bear, Roger Kuwahara and Shannon Aikau.

RODEO, RACES TUESDAY AT PARKER RANCH

The Parker Ranch 44th annual July Rodeo and Horse Races will be held Tuesday at the Parker Ranch Rodeo Arena in Waimea.

The event is from 9 a.m. to noon, and features a parade led by this year's community honoree Walter Dods, and horse races and traditional rodeo events such as team sorting, double mugging, dally team roping and other events.

There also will be games for children, food and Parker Ranch logo items for sale. Cost is $6 per person; children under 10 are free. For more information, call 885-5669.

'EWA WINS AJA FASTPITCH LEAGUE TITLE

'Ewa defeated Hana Hou, 8-7, to win the 2006 AJA Makule 14-inch Fastpitch League.

The game was played June 18 at Pearl City Recreational Field.

Gordon Ishihiro had a bases-clearing double to highlight a six-run eighth inning.

Jay Higa, Randy Itamoto and Wayne Itamoto each had a pair of hits, while David Oride hit a home run as 'Ewa finished the season with an 11-1 record.

Clay Fujie and Jon Corrales had two hits each for Hana Hou, which finished 10-2.

TEAM MEXICO TO PLAY POLO AT MOKULE'IA

Team Mexico will take on Team Bacardi Sunday at Mokule'ia Polo Grounds.

Gates open at 11 a.m. and the match begins at 2 p.m. Admission is $7, with military members with valid identification admitted free.
