Kick your popcorn up a notch

No golden statue awards for this obvious suggestion: Get plenty of buttered popcorn ready for Oscar-watching. Homemade versions will be rewarding whether you pick the screen winners or not.

Trot down to the health food store and pick up some almond butter for this popped nut treat.


  • 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup almond butter

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 8 cups popcorn (about 1/4 cup unpopped corn)

  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted (optional)

    In a medium saucepan, melt butter and add brown sugar, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat, stir in almond butter and salt and mix well. Pour over popcorn and toss to coat evenly. Toss in optional sliced almonds.

    Makes 8 cups.
