TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"American Idol," 7 p.m., and "Skating With Celebrities," 8 p.m.; both Fox. It's an all-results night on Fox. First, the "Idol" field is trimmed from 20 to 16. Then we learn which "Skating" duo won the final face-off Monday. One has skating pro Lloyd Eisler with actress Kristy Swanson. The other has pro John Zimmerman with talk show and sports personality Jillian Barberie.

"My Name is Earl," 8 p.m., NBC. Tonight, Earl remembers he hasn't been paying taxes. Alas, the government doesn't want to hear it. He'll have to come up with fresh ways to pay his debt.

OF NOTE

"Sweet Home Alabama" (2002), 7 p.m., ABC. Reese Witherspoon plays a big-city fashion designer returning home to have her estranged husband sign divorce papers.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. When a body is found in a chimney, the team finally has an excuse to search the home of a suspected abductor.

"ER," 9 p.m., NBC. In Africa, Dr. Carter treats the ravages of famine and disease, also a woman raped by militants. Back in Chicago, Clemente has been wounded. A hit-and-run case angers Pratt.
