HECO working to restore power in Kaimuki

Advertiser Staff

Hawaiian Electric Co. is restoring power to residents in the Wilhelmina Rise area one section at a time after an attempt to energize a new line failed.

Jose Dizon, HECO spokesman, said a new line was strung and powered up at 12:20 p.m. but the power tripped possibly due to the fact that too many appliances were starting up at one time in the 1,350 homes affected.

Crews will be bringing neighborhoods on line one at a time and hope that works, Dizon said, adding that he could not estimate when electricity would be restored to everyone.

The power went out shortly after midnight when a power line fell, he said. The line and all related equipment were replaced by 12:20 p.m.
