Tropicana implosion in the works?

By Anthony Curtis

Rumors persist of redevel-opment at the Tropicana. Casino owner Aztar Corp. has revealed details of a possible $1.2 billion project that would put a megaresort — with a casino, parking garage and four-acre rooftop recreation deck — on the north half of the property. Aztar did not reveal plans for the rest of the project. Recent speculation suggests that the Tropicana's two hotel towers will be imploded.

HARD ROCK CANCELS: The proposed $1 billion expansion at the Hard Rock has been called off because of a potential sale of the hotel-casino.

GALLERY CLOSED: The art gallery at Wynn Las Vegas has closed. There's no word yet on where Steve Wynn's fine art may go next.

CROBAR: Rita Rudner will soon end her engagement at New York-New York to make room for a new nightclub. If Crobar, a popular hang in Chicago, Miami and New York, joins Coyote Ugly and the Bar at Times Square as announced, it would make New York-New York one of the city's leading casinos for clubbers.

BALLY'S BENCHMARK: Bally's Sterling Brunch, the most expensive buffet in Las Vegas, is raising the tab by $3 to $65. It's a good buffet, though, with lobster tails, caviar, fresh berries, and top-level champagne.
