Design a phone book cover, win bucks

Advertiser Staff

Cash prizes will be awarded in a contest sponsored by Hawaiian Telcom and the University of Hawai'i to find cover art for nine 2006-2007 telephone directories that will commemorate UH's 100th anniversary.

The contest is open only to full-time or part-time students, faculty and staff enrolled or employed at UH campuses during the current spring semester.

Designs are being accepted through May 15. Hawaiian Telcom's new directory for O'ahu will be issued in October while directories for the counties of Hawai'i, Kaua'i and Maui are to be distributed next January and February.

There will be an art-contest winner for each of the four counties. Each will receive $200 from UH and $100 from Hawaiian Telcom, which distributes 1 million directories statewide.

Work by winning artists will be printed on the new directories. O'ahu has six books — white pages, yellow pages, Leeward, Windward, East O'ahu directories and a new companion directory.

Each county's UH campuses will hold separate contests for that county's directory covers.
