Chaminade advances in NCAA II basketball tourney

Chris Reaves scored a game-high 32 points as Chaminade smashed Alaska Anchorage, 84-67, today to advance to the NCAA Division II West Regional semifinals in Seattle.

Chaminade, the No. 3 seed, improved to 19-8. Alaska Anchorage, the No. 6 seed, dropped to 19-12 and was eliminated from the tournament.

Chaminade's Marko Kolaric had 14 points and 14 rebounds, and Zack Whiting added 11 points and 12 assists. Reaves shot 12 of 19 from the field, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range. He also had five assists, three rebounds and two steals.

The Silverswords will play the winner of No. 2 seed Western Washington (21-6) and No. 7 seed Humboldt State (17-9) tomorrow at 3 p.m.

This is Chaminade's first NCAA Division II Tournament appearance. The Silverswords are led by first-year head coach Matt Mahar.
