No NIT bid for UH men

Advertiser Staff

The 2005-06 season came to an official close for the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team Sunday when it was not selected for the National Invitation Tournament.

The Rainbow Warriors lost to New Mexico State, 58-57, in the quarterfinals of the WAC Tournament last week at Reno, Nev.

Hawai'i finished with a 17-11 record. Forty teams were selected to participate in the NIT.

Louisiana Tech was the only team from the Western Athletic Conference selected by the NIT.

WAC champion Nevada and runner-up Utah State are in the NCAA Tournament.

The women's NCAA and WNIT basketball fields will be announced on Monday.
