Punahou man killed Friday was truck driver

By Peter Boylan
Advertiser Staff Writer

Honolulu police yesterday identified the man who was shot and killed in broad daylight in Punahou Friday afternoon as Jason Nam, 31, a juice delivery truck driver for the Govinda's Fresh Juices company.

Stunned witnesses said that at around 4 p.m. three men pulled up in a black Nissan Maxima at the apartment building at 1709 Beretania St. where Nam lived. The men, one masked and another carrying what appeared to be a baseball bat, got out and approached Nam, who was cleaning his dark blue Lexus in the back of the building's parking lot.

After a brief argument and a struggle, one of the assailants shot Nam in the neck.

The three men immediately sped away from the scene in the Maxima, which police believe is the same stolen vehicle found in flames at around 10:40 p.m. Friday in Mililani.

Witnesses there reported seeing a man get out of the Maxima and get into a dark van, which fled the scene.

Neighbors, who said the argument and killing happened in just a few minutes, described Nam as outgoing and friendly.

Police ask anyone with information to call the department.
