Downed poles slow Farrington traffic

Advertiser Staff

Traffic in and out of Nanakuli this morning continues to be limited to one lane in each direction on Farrington Highway as emergency repair crews continue to work on replacing 13 utility poles that were toppled by a gust of wind about 1 p.m. yesterday.

To help relieve congestion, Kolekole Pass, which links the Navy's Lualualei Ammunition Depot with the Army's Schofield Barracks has been opened to public use.

Drivers without a military or Department of Defense decal affixed to their vehicles should be prepared to show a valid driver's license, proof of insurance and car registration documents to use Kolekole Pass.

The downed utility poles are located along the stretch of Farrington between Lualualei Naval Road and Haleakala Ave.

Repair crews were hoping to restore Farrington Highway to full use by at least 6 p.m. today.
