A capital campaign for the Nu'uanu YMCA was exceeding expectations, according to this story in the March 13, 1918, Pacific Commercial Advertiser.

1907: Mrs. Mary Castle, one of the few early missionaries to the "Sandwich Island Mission" who lived into the 20th century, dies at the age of 87. She arrived in Hawai'i in 1843.

1933: Hawai'i's banks reopen following the banking holiday. Certificates in denominations of $1, $5 and $10 are issued in the place of currency. Business was reported to be brisk.

1968: The Most Rev. John J. Scanlan is named to succeed the Most Rev. James J. Sweeney as bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Honolulu.
