Fire destroys abandoned building

Fire destroyed a vacant building this morning on the North Shore on the makai side of Kamehameha Highway across from the Crawford Convalescent Home.Fire Capt. Kenison Tejada said two engine companies and a tanker responded to a brush fire call about 5:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found one of three or four abandoned buildings in the area was on fire, too.
No injuries were reported.
Tejada said that because the building was abandoned, it is likely that no damage estimate will be prepared nor will efforts be made to try to determine how the fire started.
