The Kaua'i Visitors Bureau is asking people to help with alternate lodging for tourists who are scheduled to stay at North Shore properties that have been cut off by yesterday's break of the Kaloko Reservoir.

"We are seeking alternate accommodations for guests wanting to remain on island and need your kokua," said Sue Kanoho, the bureau's executive director.

She asks that anyone with alternate accommodations call the bureau at 245-3971.

"We delivered a message to all rental car companies asking them to advise customers not to drive to the North Shore," Kanoho said. "As much as possible, we need to keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles."

The visitors bureau has asked Lihu'e Airport to run a public address announcement every 20 minutes advising visitors with North Shore accommodations to report to the Pahio Booth, where a list of alternate hotel rooms is being maintained.

"We have asked Kaua'i's airline partners to waive the change fees for rescheduling flights for those residents and visitors that have been stranded," she said. "They have been very supportive and their kokua is greatly appreciated."
