1906: Board of Health President L.E. Pinkham declares that his plan to reclaim Waikiki lands is a go.
1907: The Hawaiian Board purchases the Kidwell Estate on 37 acres of land in Manoa Valley, where it proposes to locate Mid-Pacific Institute, into which Kawaiahao Seminary, Mills Institute and the Japanese Boarding School are to be consolidated.
1918: Maj. Harold M. Clark of the Fort Kamehameha Aero Squadron makes the first interisland flight, from O'ahu to Moloka'i and back.
1959: The Advertiser reports that the people of Hawai'i overwhelmingly favor Aloha State as the new state nickname. The Advertiser had printed entry blanks on March 10 asking for suggestions. The paper said it stopped counting because the vote was so overwhelming.
1999: State officials announce that the recount of more than 412,000 ballots cast in Hawai'i's general election in 1998 verified the original outcome in every state and local race. It was the most extensive recount in Hawai'i's history after questions were raised about the reliability of electronic voting machines, some of which had malfunctioned during the election.
2001: The joint operating agreement between The Advertiser and the Honolulu Star-Bulletin officially ends.
2005: A city-owned Norfolk Island pine tree falls and critically injures a 12-year-old girl in Manoa.
