Fatal crash closes part of highway near OCC

Advertiser Staff

All west-bound lanes of Kamehameha Highway in the area near Oahu Community Correction Center have been closed since about 9 a.m. this morning following a fatal, two-vehicle collision.

According to very preliminary reports, a car traveling east-bound on Kamehameha Highway was attempting to make a left turn into the Marukai Wholesale Mart at 2310 Kamehameha Highway when it was broadsided by a vehicle headed in the opposite direction.

Police said the highway is closed between Pu'uhale Road and Middle Street.

Traffic is being diverted down Pu'uhale to Nimitz Highway. Right-hand turns onto Kamehameha Highway from Laumaka Street are not being allowed at this time, police said.

Police vehicular homicide detectives are at the scene. There was no immediate indication how long the highway might be closed.
