Perfect game helps Coolen win No. 600

By Stephen Tsai

University of Hawaii freshman Justine Smethurst pitched a seven-inning perfect game to defeat Longwood (Va.), 6-0, and give coach Bob Coolen his 600th career coaching victory Thursday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Coolen's record is 600-435-1, including 528-342-1 in 15 seasons at UH. He previously coached at Bentley in Massachusetts.

It was UH's opening game in the Bank of Hawaii Invitational Tournament.

It was UH's first perfect game since Shannon Tabion pitched one in 2004.
