Search for Kaua'i victims resumes on ground, water

Advertiser Staff

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Mayor Bryan Baptiste said the search for victims of Tuesday's dam break disaster will continue for at least two more days.

The bodies of three victims have been found and identified. At least four others remain missing.

State Department of Land and Natural Resources crews and county lifeguards in boats will conduct a search of the Kilauea River today and divers are standing by to search the river bottom in case the aquatic search turns up leads.

Also, ground teams have been augmented for a second sweep for victims along the entire length of the Wailapa Stream's shores.

A new crew of 17 members of the state's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force will arrive this afternoon with personnel from O'ahu, Maui and Hawai'i, the county said. Hawai'i Air National Guard personnel also are expected to join Kaua'i police and others assisting in the search.
