Service Thursday for Lance Cpl. Marino

A service for a Hawai'i-born Marine killed in Iraq will be Thursday at the base chapel at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i at Kane'ohe Bay.

Lance Cpl. Kristen K. Marino, 20, was killed March 12 during combat operations in Al Anbar province.

He was a rifleman assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the base chapel. The service is at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the Hawai'i State Veterans Cemetery. Casual attire. Arrangements by Borthwick Mortuary.

Marino is survived by his parents, Sandra and Alfred Marino Jr.; sister, Tasha Wallace; brothers, Anthony Figueroa and Hokulani Figueroa; and nieces and nephews.

Marino was born and raised on O'ahu.

He was a graduate of the Hawai'i National Guard Youth Challenge Academy, joined the Marine Corps in September 2004 and was sent to Iraq last September.

His service awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and War on Terrorism Service Medal.
