Rainbows top Vulcans in baseball, 5-2

Luis Avila and Adam Roberts each had two doubles and an RBI to support the strong pitching of Justin Costi to help Hawai'i beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 5-2, Tuesday night at Wong Stadium in Hilo.

Costi (3-0) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs, five hits and a walk with one strikeout. Rich Olsen added a scoreless inning of relief and Matt Daly pitched 2 1/3 innings of hitless ball for his first save. Daly had five strikeouts for the Rainbows (19-8).

Ryan Hanohano (0-7) was tagged for three runs in 3 1/3 innings for the Vulcans (9-17).

The series continues at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
