Advance results for the February sweeps period are out, and it's more of the same: KHON is still No. 1 in news.

KITV came out No. 2 behind KHON at the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. news slots, as well as in the morning news rankings, as it did last year at this time. However, KITV was a distant fourth behind KHON, KGMB and KHNL in the hotly contested 10 p.m. slot, while KGMB came within one ratings point of the market leader.

Station general managers have noted that the results may be affected by NBC affiliate KHNL's coverage of the Winter Olympics. A second ratings book that adjusts for the Olympic coverage is due out on April 13.

KHON continues to dominate the 6 p.m. news slot, recording a 17 household rating and 35 share. Ratings represent the percentage of TV households that are tuned in to a given program. A share represents the percentage of televisions being used that are tuned in to a given show at a given time.

KITV remained second with a 6 rating and 12 share, followed closely by KGMB with a 5 rating and 11 share and KHNL with a 5 rating and 10 share.

KHNL got a boost in ratings for its network programming with strong local interest in the Winter Olympics, which outperformed the national ratings with a 16 rating and 30 share.

Other notable ratings giants included CBS' Super Bowl, earning a 33 rating and 79 share for affiliate KGMB, and Fox's "American Idol" on KHON, which averaged a robust 25 rating and 43 share.
