Honolulu had added two lions to its constantly growing zoo, The Pacific Commercial Advertiser reported on March 22, 1917.

1926: Relief of the Honolulu highlands water shortage appears likely after the municipal board finance committee authorizes negotiations with Hawaiian Electric for the pumping of water from HECO's downtown plant into the Nu'uanu reservoir.

1928: St. Louis College is about to sell 80 acres of adjoining land to a real estate hui, The Honolulu Advertiser reports.

1955: A Military Air Transport DC-6 slams into the Wai'anae range at Lualualei ammunition depot at 2:16 a.m., killing all 66 aboard. The plane had taken off from Hickam the previous evening and turned back 3 1/2 hours into the flight because of engine trouble.

1972: The Hawai'i Legislature ratifies the Equal Rights Amendment within 45 minutes of the time it passed in Congress. Hawai'i was the first state to ratify.
