Jellyfish influx closes Hanauma Bay again

Advertiser Staff

Hanauma Bay remains closed today as a result of a box jellyfish influx.

The influx is smaller than expected, but other areas that may also be affected, including Waikiki and north and west shore beaches, including Waimea Bay, Ehukai, Sunset Beach, Pokai Bay, Maile Beach and Makaha Beach.

Lifeguards will be monitoring the status all day and posting signs anywhere that the jellyfish become a problem.

Those with box jellyfish allergies or do not want to be stung should stay out of the water during the influx.

Anyone stung should see a lifeguard for help or apply copious amounts of vinegar to the sting site. In case of a severe toxic reaction, medical help should be sought immediately.
