Police Beat: Teen, 19, arrested for robbery

A 15-year-old boy was robbed while walking to school Wednesday in the Kapahulu section of Honolulu.

The boy was walking to school at 7:55 a.m. when he was approached by a 19-year-old man who demanded money. The boy refused and the 19-year-old got angry and grabbed for the boy's money, police said. After a a brief struggle, the 19-year-old took the 15-year-old's money and ran.

Several witnesses told responding patrol officers they saw the 19-year-old run into an apartment building. Police arrested the man and charged him with robbery in the second degree.

His bail was set at $25,000, police said.

Thief arrested after being tailed by victim's family

Police arrested a 17-year-old Waipahu boy after he allegedly stole a car Tuesday.

The car was reported stolen Tuesday by a 26-year-old man. Yesterday, a family member of the victim saw the car heading east on the H-1 Freeway near the Kunia Road on ramp, police said.

The family member followed the car and called 911 after seeing it turn into a Waipahu area park.

Police converged on the car and arrested the driver without incident.
