Concerts today kick off Prince Kuhio festivities

Advertiser Staff

A weekend of Prince Kuhio Day festivities gets under way today with two concerts given by the Prince Kuhio Hawaiian Civic Club Chorale in the lobby of the Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio Hotel Lobby.

The concerts will begin at 12:30 and 1:20 p.m.

The Prince Kuhio Day Parade will be from 4 to 6 p.m. tomorrow through Waikiki along Kalakaua Avenue, from Fort DeRussy to Kapi'olani Park. This year's grand marshals are H.K. Bruss Keppeler and Doreen Lindsey. The theme is Ke Ali'i Maka'ainana, "the citizen prince," which was Kuhio's nickname.

An "Ali'i Sunday Service" will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday at Kawaiaha'o Church. At 10:30 a.m., a commemorative service will begin at Mauna 'Ala, the Royal Mausoleum, in Nu'uanu.

All events are free to the public.

The Prince Kuhio Day holiday is being observed Monday.
