The sinking of the Navy submarine Skate off O'ahu made headlines in The Pacific Commercial Advertiser on March 26, 1915.

1903: At the annual meeting of the Hawaii Yacht Club, it was decided that the club should take steps to secure a clubhouse on the Peninsula where the members not owning boats could be entertained and where dances could be given once a month with a special train running between the Peninsula and the city.

1904: The Pacific Commercial Advertiser reports that two of the prized heirlooms of the Queen Emma collection that were closely related in Island history to Queen Victoria and the Duke of Edinburgh will be returned to England. One was a medallion bracelet given to Queen Emma on her visit to Windsor Castle in 1865. The other piece of jewelry, a gold bracelet, was presented to the widowed queen by the duke on his return to England from Hawai'i in 1869. A court had upheld the claim of a member of her adoptive father's family in England to the bracelets.

1922: The Royal Mausoleum is dedicated as a chapel on the anniversary of the birth of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana'ole. His widow, Princess Elizabeth Kahanu Kalaniana'ole, was largely responsible for converting the tomb into a chapel, the paper reported.

1929: The Kapiolani Maternity Home opens with ceremonies marking the laying of the cornerstone.

1930: Six are killed when the earthen dam under construction for the Alexander Reservoir on the McBryde plantation on Kaua'i gives way.

1963: Nineteen youths flee the Koolau Boys Home in two separate breakouts. By 11 p.m., 10 had been caught.

1996: Developer and entrepreneur Hung Wo Ching dies at the age of 83. The son of Chinese immigrants, he sat on the boards of Bank of Hawaii, Alexander & Baldwin and Matson Navigation. He was also a Bishop Estate trustee. He also saved a struggling airline from bankruptcy and renamed it Aloha Airlines.
