For some, it's a good opportunity to play with and against some of the top senior soccer talent in the state. For others, it's one more chance to showcase their skills for college coaches from around the nation.

Senior boys and girls, 72 in all, are playing in the HYSA Class of 2006 All-Stars games tomorrow at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The girls play at 5:30 p.m. and the boys follow at 7:30 p.m.

"It's a good chance for people to be seen," said Punahou forward Ashley Nied. "It's cool. It's fun to play with a lot of other players from around the state."

Nied, who will join the women's program at Saint Mary's of California in the fall, has the luxury of playing for fun and memories. Others, such as Waimea forward Chad Thompson, still hope to catch the eye of one of the coaches in Hawai'i for the Hawai'i Youth Soccer Association's Olympic Development Program.

"I know this is a good opportunity to show my talents," said Thompson, the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation Player of the Year and All-State first team member. "Hopefully someone will pick it up."

Thompson is talking to coaches from De Anza Junior College in California, but other college coaches could be watching the all-star game.

Coaches in Hawai'i with HYSA's ODP program include Paul Bravo of the UCLA men, Sean Bushey of Whitworth men and women, Glenn Crooks of Rutgers women, Dan Donnigan of St. Louis men, Michael Farrand of Central Washington women, George Kuntz of UC Irvine men, Cameron Rast of Santa Clara men, Jerry Smith of Santa Clara women and Dan Tobias of Arizona women.
