Suspicious vehicle report leads to stolen-car arrest
Two Wai'anae-area men, both 36, were arrested yesterday after police were called to check on a report of a suspicious vehicle.
Police found the two men standing outside of a car fronting 87-801 Apana Road about 8:15 a.m.
An initial check showed the car had not been reported stolen and officers told the two men to leave the area. The two men got in the car, which also had a passenger in the back seat. The driver was reversing the car when officers received word from a police dispatcher that the car had just been reported stolen.
Police ordered the driver to pull over and arrested him on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. The backseat passenger then told the officers that the other man in the front seat had also been driving the car, so he was arrested as well on the same suspected offense.
