Hot on the heels of Fashion Week in New York, spring fashions have arrived in Honolulu. Some health- and beauty-oriented events are planned this week in our city; meanwhile, other notables have cross-pollinated the Islands, coming and going from O'ahu.

FASHION AT FIRST FRIDAY

Honolulu designer Ro-berta Oaks has expanded her line of deconstructed slips to include T-shirts, skirts and dresses. There's still a vintage vibe, with patchwork skirts made from vintage silk scarves as well as hand-dyed T-shirts.

Oaks shows her entire spring line from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 7 at Details Gallery. If you miss it then, she will also be at Details (1142 Bethel St.) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 8.

Her clothing is sold at Koko Cabana in Hawai'i Kai and Nell on Maui, as well as a few other locations. Or check it out at www.oakshawaii.com.

MOTHER-DAUGHTER SPA

Leading up to Mother's Day, downtown Honolulu's Heaven on Earth Salon & Day Spa will present a mother-and-daughter spa day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Daughters need to be 5 to 14 years old. Mothers will receive a variety of spa services while the daughter enjoys mini-spa treatments.

Cost for the day is $150 per pair, with $50 going to the Women's Fund of Hawai'i, which funds organizations that help women and girls become safe, financially secure and empowered.

Reservations required: Phone Renee at 599-5501.

CYNTHIA STEFFE VISITS

New York fashion designer Cynthia Steffe, with her 3-year-old daughter in tow (they go everywhere together), created her own spring runway on Level 1 at Neiman Marcus Ala Moana to introduce her flirty and feminine spring line.

Inspired by the art of Mondrian and the architecture of LeCorbusier, her prints were brights on white. Details of eyelet, lace and crochet were right up to trend. Retro sundresses with shrugs and tiny cardigans formed a fresh silhouette, while a cleverly engineered dress worn by the designer paired a knit with a cotton/silk blend to create ultimately wearable flounces.

The reality factor of the clothing on the informal runway was clear: Women nearly crushed each other in a rush to the racks, and the dressing rooms hit capacity in a matter of minutes.

BROWN AT CASTLE

Honolulu hair stylist and businessman Paul Brown was invited to Scotland's prestigious private Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle, as the celebrity hairdresser for an exclusive members-only ladies spa week.

The castle, which dates back to the 9th century, was purchased in 1898 by industrialist Andrew Carnegie.

Brown, color technician Michi Okimoto and makeup artist George Johnson treated the ladies to hair styling and color as well as a fresh approach to makeup.

ESKANDAR TRUNK SHOW

London-based fashion designer Eskandar has become a favorite with Honolulu women. He creates casual, elegant clothing with simple lines in the finest fabrics.

The designer makes his second public appearance with a trunk show of his spring 2006 collection to Neiman Marcus Ala Moana Center.

No reservations required: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 8, in designer sportswear, Level 2.
