Advertiser Staff

Kalaheo went on a 12-0 run in the fourth period last night and then held off Roosevelt, 45-40, in a meeting of O'ahu Interscholastic Association girls basketball unbeatens.

The visiting Mustangs improved to 4-0 in the OIA's Eastern Division; the Rough Riders fell to 4-1.

Junior point guard Shanadee Canon scored 16 points in the first half to help Kalaheo take a 26-21 lead. But Roosevelt outscored the Mustangs, 9-3, in the third period to take a 30-29 lead into the fourth.

Kalaheo regained the lead at 31-30 early in the final quarter and then scored 10 straight points despite Canon twisting her ankle in the middle of that span and sitting out the rest of the game. She finished with a game-high 21 points.

The Mustangs went up, 41-30, after Kendra Fischer's 3-pointer with two minutes remaining. The Rough Riders then finished the game with a 10-4 run.

Fischer added 13 points, including three 3-pointers, for Kalaheo. Shannon Miyashiro led Roosevelt with 14 points.
