Puget Sound sophomore second baseman Lindsay Fujita (Punahou of Honolulu) was named the Northwest Conference Player of the Week on March 20.

She led the Loggers to a 7-1 week at the Sunwest Tournament in Orange, Calif., by hitting .370 (10 for 27). She had three home runs, a double, 11 RBIs and scored 11 runs.

MORE SOFTBALL

  • Brigham Young senior third baseman Ashlyn Russell (Baldwin '02) hit a grand slam in the seventh inning in a 7-5 win over No. 22 DePaul Thursday.

  • Utah sophomore shortstop Sharee Fonoti (Kamehameha '04) homered in a 3-2 win against Utah Valley State College on Friday in the Utah Invitational.

    Fonoti also went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run in a 3-0 win over Harvard on Saturday in the tournament.

    Portland State junior left fielder Kimi Daniel (Sacred Hearts '03) went 1 for 2 with a home run in the second inning of a 2-1 win over Harvard on Friday, also in the tournament.

    TENNIS

  • Two players from Hawai'i helped UC Irvine sweep Montana, 7-0, Monday at the 9th Annual UCI Spring Invitational at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

    Sophomore Jessica Broadfoot, a 2004 Punahou graduate, teamed with Lisa Shih to beat Cheyne Ursich and Martyna Nowak, 8-0, in the No. 3 doubles match.

    Freshman Heidi Kaloi, a 2005 Kamehameha graduate, defeated Ursich, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 3 singles. Broadfoot beat Nowak, 7-6, 6-4, in No. 4 singles.

    BASEBALL

  • LeTourneau University (Longview, Texas) sophomore outfielder Ethan Cravalho (Ka'ahumanu Hou of Honoka'a) went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three stolen bases in a 7-5 win over Wiley College (Texas) on March 22.

    MEN'S BASKETBALL

  • Colorado School of Mines (Golden, Colo.) guard Kyle Pape (Iolani '05) was one of 10 freshmen named to the Division II Bulletin All-Freshmen Team.

    He finished the season averaging a team-best 14.2 points per game. He also tallied 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 0.7 steals per game.

    WOMEN'S GOLF

  • Willamette (Salem, Ore.) freshman Whitney Ueno (Hilo '05) shot 83-85—168 to win the Willamette Invitational at the Illahe Hill Country Club in Salem, Ore., on March 19 and 20.

    She has won every tournament Willamette has played in this year, fall and spring.

    MEN'S GOLF

  • Idaho senior Christian Akau (Kamehameha '02 of Waipahu) shot 71-74-72—217 to tie for 11th in the Cuesta Title/Cal Poly Intercollegiate that concluded Friday at the par-72 6,761-yard Cypress Country Club in Arroya, Calif.

    Loyola Marymount senior Chaz Inouye (St. Anthony '02) shot 68-78-77—223 to tie for 34th as an individual entry.

    Gonzaga sophomore Reyn Tanaka (Mid-Pacific '04) shot 75-78-72—225 to tie for 40th, and San Francisco freshman Kurt Nino (Damien '05) shot 78-78-76—232 to tie for 57th.
