Hawai'i-UCSB finale washed out

UH grounds crew member Chris Ching has gotten a lot of work this season. Last night's rainout was the fifth of 2006.

After Hawai'i's doubleheader sweep of UC Santa Barbara Monday, rain swept away their non-conference baseball series finale at Les Murakami Stadium last night.

The game will not be made up. Unlike the Louisiana Tech game two Sundays ago that can be made up when UH visits Ruston in May, the Rainbows do not have the same arrangement with UCSB, which heads to the Big Island for a three-game series against UH-Hilo starting tomorrow.

UH coach Mike Trapasso said he will look into picking up a game somewhere. Otherwise, this is the third consecutive season UH will have 55 regular-season games. It had a home season finale against Fresno State canceled in 2004 and last year's season finale at LaTech canceled, both because of rain.

Last night was the fifth rainout this season. Sunday's series opener was postponed, forcing Monday's doubleheader.

Hawai'i (22-8 overall, 0-2 Western Athletic Conference) resumes conference play Friday against San Jose State (19-10, 2-1). The Spartans saw a game against Saint Mary's postponed last night because of rain in San Jose.
